Kenya Coast Polytechnic spearheads mentorship programme to promote female enrolment in Marine Engineering

Kenya Coast National Polytechnic has made tremendous efforts to support girls undertaking Science Technical Engineers and Mathematics courses (STEM). Female enrolment rates have always been low as compared to boys in science courses over time.

The Deputy Principal Academics, Ms. Jane Kariuki spearheaded mentorship programmes together with other lectures to motivate girls in the Polytechnic as they undertake the science subjects. Under EASTRIP project, Marine Engineering course has seen an increase in the number of girls undertaking the science programmes.

The science departments in the polytechnic are Electrical & Electronics engineering, Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Building & Civil engineering Applied Sciences and Information Communication Technology have also registered increase enrolment.
