The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) – Mwanza Campus has taken a proactive step to support first-year students recognize the importance of personal development alongside academic growth. The institute organized a gender seminar addressed important topics such as reproductive health and preventive education aimed at helping students avoid early pregnancies and the stress that can impact their academic pursuits.
Speaking at the Seminar for first-year students in the 2024/25 academic year, Dr. Albert Mmari, the Director, DIT Mwanza Campus, advised students to focus on their studies to achieve their dreams. He underscored the importance of the government’s investment in learning infrastructure and encouraged students to focus on their studies to take full advantage of the newly improved facilities. The facilities were constructed with funding from the World Bank and the government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP). They include a new academic building, a teaching factory for leather products, and dormitories for both male and female students.
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Yassin Ally, Director of Kivulini in Mwanza, a Non-Government Organization, commended the campus for organizing the seminar, which he said prepares students to make informed decisions about their education and life. He also called on other institutions to adopt similar initiatives instead of limiting student orientation to infrastructure excursions.
Mr. Ally highlighted the importance of self-awareness and guidance for young students, particularly those under 18, to help them navigate new environments and make sound decisions, including in relationships.
