DIT Mwanza Recognized for Producing Skilled Graduates in Leather Technology and Laboratory Science.

The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Mwanza Campus has been commended for its role in producing job-ready graduates, particularly in leather product technology and laboratory science. During its 18th graduation ceremony, second cluster, held on December 13, 2024, the government emphasized the ongoing improvements in the education sector aimed at fostering employability, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship.

Deputy Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Qs Omary Kipanga, highlighted the government’s efforts to prioritize vocational education by constructing Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) centers in underserved districts. Currently, 64 districts are without VETA centers, but construction is progressing, along with university campuses in 14 regions that lacked them, such as Kigoma, Kagera, Tabora, and Lindi.

The government is also enhancing practical training to equip students with market-relevant skills. DIT’s leadership echoed this commitment, with Governing Council Chair, Engineer Dr. Richard Masika noting the establishment of an entrepreneurship and innovation center in Dar es Salaam, funded by a €19.6 million concessional loan from Italy.

At the Mwanza Campus, DIT Chief Executive Officer Professor Preksedis Marco Ndomba highlighted advancements under the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP), funded by the World Bank with TZS 37 billion. These upgrades include modern infrastructure, such as classrooms, dormitories, a library, and a center of excellence for leather processing.

However, DIT is holding its 18th Graduation Ceremony, second cluster, at its Mwanza Campus with a total of 106 graduates from both long-term and short-term courses. The percentage of female students graduating in the 2023/2024 academic year has increased by 29.6%.
