Ethiopia Makes Historic Debut at WorldSkills Competition with Best of Nations Award

Ethiopia made a historical debut at the 47th WorldSkills Competition which took place from 7th to 14th September 2024 in Lyon, France. The event brought together 1,400 competitors from 70 countries, showcasing their talents across 62 occupations in six main sectors.

Three talented individuals represented Ethiopia and these included Tsion Adane Dinku in IT Networking and System Administration, Biruk Tsegay in Cabinet Making, and Yeromnesh Ware in CNC Turning. Despite facing tough competition from more experienced participants, the Ethiopian team displayed remarkable skill and determination.

Despite the challenges of competing against seasoned professionals from around the globe, Tsion Adane Dinku stood out as a first-time participant with her exceptional performance in IT Networking and system administration, winning the Best of Nations award.

Ethiopian Delegates at World Skills Competition

Ethiopia’s participation in the WorldSkills Competition follows the country’s recent membership of the WorldSkills organization as the 88th member state, which aligns with its national skills strategy and commitment to enhancing its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. Ethiopia’s participation in the WorldSkills Competition 2024 was significant in promoting skills development in the country.v
