Ethiopia has become the 88th member of World Skills International (WSI), after the board officially approved its membership on April 3, 2024. The development is a significant step towards enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country and the region as well.
The Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute (FTVTI) together with the Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS) spearheaded the efforts to align Ethiopia’s vocational training standards with international benchmarks

The application process involved a thorough evaluation of Ethiopia’s vocational training systems, infrastructure, and commitment to upholding the standards of WSI.
Membership in WSI will enable the country to benchmark its skills training against global standards, afford the youth in Ethiopia a platform to their show case their skills on an international stage, and foster international collaborations with leading TVET centers worldwide, host International Skills Competitions among others.
The membership also gives Ethiopia participating rights at this year’s WSC in Lyon, France 2024. Preparations and rehearsals are already underway at the FTVTI campus for the occupations the country will show case at the competition: CNC turning, cabinetmaking, and IT networking.
