Hawassa Polytechnic College recently hosted a consultative meeting focusing on enhancing collaboration between TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) institutions and the industry. One of the key missions of TVET institutions is to provide quality training that equips graduates with knowledge, skills, and a strong work ethic. They are particularly centered on offering education that is both demand-driven and market-oriented.
The importance of collaboration between industry and training institutions cannot be overstated when it comes to the success of the TVET sector. Technical institutions must forge solid relationships with industry to support the enhancement of practical training. This can be facilitated through various activities such as the donation of equipment and tools, staff exchange programs, and providing trainees and staff with work experience placements.

A strategy under the East African Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) investment plan is the institutionalization of industry linkages. This is a critical component of the project. In alignment with this strategy, Hawassa Polytechnic College organized the TVET-Industry linkage consultative meeting. It was attended by invited industry representatives, members of the Industry Advisory Board, and partner institutions.
During the event, Mr. Wolle Abegaze, Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board, addressed the gathering. He presented the board’s major achievements in fostering TVET-Industry linkages, discussed the role of the IAB in facilitating the improvement of TVET training quality, and shared the challenges that have been encountered since the board’s establishment. The meeting was chaired by Her Excellency Ms. Hagertsion Abebe, head of the Sidama Regional State Job, Skills, and Enterprise Development Bureau.
