World Bank Invests in Young Innovators at Arusha Technical College

The World Bank is committed to empowering young innovators from tertiary institutions in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to pursue their dreams and alleviate poverty in Africa.

Arusha Technical College, renowned for producing innovators in various technical fields, is among the institutions set to benefit from this initiative. Many of its graduates are self-employed, while others contribute to the private and public sectors.

During an online meeting between colleges in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the World Bank Resident Country Director Nathan Belete emphasized the importance of fostering creativity and exploring opportunities for knowledge growth and income enhancement. “We have brought together young people from four countries to discuss the important things they need to develop their fields and look at places where they can gain knowledge and increase their income,” Mr. Belete said.

He highlighted the World Bank’s support for Tanzania’s education sector, with investments exceeding US$1.5 billion.

Arusha Technical College Rector Dr. Musa Chacha echoed the institution’s commitment to implementing the government’s policy of preparing innovators with practical skills. He explained the establishment of a small factory to be operated by students,producing items such as doorknobs, hinges, and handles, currently imported from abroad.

Dr. Chacha further announced the construction of a hospital on campus, aiming to produce basic medical equipment, including blood pressure monitors, alongside providing healthcare services. These initiatives underscore Arusha Technical College’s dedication to empowering young innovators and contributing to Tanzania’s development.
