General Wingate Polytechnic College in Ethiopia conducted training program for TVET leaders. The training, which took place on July 28 and 29, 2023, focused on the system change approach and its relevance to the leadership of TVET programs.
This approach is increasingly important in today’s leadership practices, especially in the field of TVET. The training aimed to provide participants with a clear understanding of the nature, principles, and applications of system change approaches, as well as innovative pedagogical approaches related to TVET programs.
One key aspect addressed in the training was the different perspectives on learning and teaching, which shape the practices in education. It emphasized the need to reflect on and transform our practices based on the perspectives we hold. The training provided a detailed explanation of the concepts and nature of learning, teaching, and training, highlighting the essential characteristics of effective teaching. Additionally, it explored various innovative learning techniques, explaining their purpose and how they can be implemented

Another crucial aspect discussed in the training was the improvement of TVET institutions through talent cultivation, skills development, and innovation. To enhance the professional qualities and competencies of instructors and managers, capacity development programs were emphasized as the backbone of effective and efficient TVET training delivery. The training provided insights into the theories and practices of capacity development programs, emphasizing the continuous nature of such programs.
Moreover, the training emphasized the importance of research, market assessment, and program review in TVET institutions. It highlighted the modular organization of TVET programs to meet the requirements outlined in occupational standards. It was emphasized that these standards should reflect the changing skill demands in the labour force, necessitating the development or review of existing occupational standards. The training provided guidance on the process of modular curriculum development and review, stressing the importance of labour market information for identifying priorities in standard development or review.
