The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) has entered into a partnership agreement with The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through a special programme known as J-WEL, which aims at improving training and research at the Institute.

Through this programme, DIT will benefit from MIT’s expertise in various areas, including curriculum development that meets the needs of the international market, teaching and assessment.

Speaking during the signing of the agreement that took place in Boston, USA, the Principal of the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology Prof. Preksedis M. Ndomba emphasized that, this is one of the big steps in ensuring that DIT achieves its goals of being a model Institution in Africa in technology.

“This collaboration between DIT and MIT has come at the right time when as an institution we are making a big change in the way we provide our education,”

“This collaboration will improve three main areas and that is the preparation of curriculum which meets international standards and looking at the needs of industries, improving leadership, increasing the skills of teachers in teaching and research,” said Prof. Ndomba.

He also said that the collaboration will enable DIT teachers to conduct research in collaboration with MIT teachers.

The Chairman of the DIT Governing Council, Eng. Dr. Richard Masika has complimented the progress made by the Institute and urged teachers to use this rare opportunity to ensure that they learn and use this collaboration to improve their professional skills.

The DIT delegation led by Engineer Dr. Masika attended a three-day special training aimed at showing new approaches to university governance.

The collaboration between MIT and DIT is part of a project funded by the World Bank to improve training at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology for the establishment of an IT competence center at the Institute’s Main Campus in Dar es Salaam.
