Gender mainstreaming is taken as a one of the core cross cutting issues at Dire Dawa Polytechnic Collage. Therefore, in an effort to encourage female participation in TVET courses for both students and staff, the college has set up a day care centre at its premises in Dire Dawa.

The day care centre was constructed to provide child care service so that female students focus on their training and job. The college has also formed a gender team to benchmark best experience from 4 different institutes and develop gender mainstreaming guidelines.
