Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Mwanza campus, which is geographically located along the Lake Victoria shores, expects to optimally utilize funding from EASTRIP to transform DIT Mwanza Campus into a Centre of Excellence in Leather Processing and Allied Technologies (CELPAT).
A part of its publicity activities, the institute carried out a number of outreach and promotion campaigns in Mwanza region and around Lake Victoria regions, namely, Shinyanga, Simiyu and Mara. During the campaigns, 20 Ordinary Level secondary schools, 6 Advanced Level Secondary schools and 2 Vocational training centres, 1 Technical School and 4 Municipal education offices were visited. The campaigns aimed at raising awareness and promoting community uptake of TVET courses.

DIT Mwanza Campus as a Technical training centre sees the importance of gender balance in its community, and thus conducted awareness seminars on gender issues to its staff and students on 13th and 20th June 2020 respectively.
For ensuring smooth, effective and efficient implementation of the project, the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) were timely established and the two sets are currently working collaboratively with DIT management to realize the set project outcomes.
DIT Mwanza Campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two major Tanzanian leather industries, namely, Bora Shoe Industries limited on 1st June, 2020 and Kilimanjaro International Leather Industries Company Limited (KILICL), on 11th August, 2020. Through KILICL collaboration, three DIT Mechanical engineering staff were attached and participated in the setting, installation and commissioning of the Modern Leather Products Machineries for the purpose of understudying the contracted experts, sustainability of KILI, and enhancing academia – industrial linkage.
MoU with a TVET in Ethiopia, namely, Federal TVET Institute, was signed on 12th September, 2020, mainly to accelerate technology transfer, promote students and staff exchange, and build up Regional Integration.
