KIHBT and Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) signed a Corporation Agreement to support the capacity building for public transport operations in Nairobi and the Metropolitan Areas.
As per the Cooperation Agreement KIHBT will be responsible for the training of drivers among other programs such as:
- Training of bus drivers and managers of the Bus Rapid Transit System
- Elementary and refreshers course for drivers,
- Defensive driving
- Fleet management
- Road safety and any other relevant training program to be agreed upon.
In the provision of the training courses, KIHBT will prepare the training curriculum in consultation with the key stakeholders and ensure it is accredited by the relevant authorities and deliver the training programs, assess, and certify in conjunction with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) where applicable.

The Corporation Agreement is to ensure that both parties collaborate to jointly facilitate a program that will provide mutual linkage which will guarantee acquisition of adequate skills and competences as required by the Competence Based Education Training (CBET).
The skills gained will be applied by students after qualifying and in the process meet the labor market requirements and demands. This initiative will also ensure that KIHBT continues to stay abreast with technological advancement that will lead to giving students, instructors, and the institution a competitive edge in the roads/ highway sector. The areas of collaboration include.
- Student attachment and internship for the qualifying ones
- Participation of Curriculum Development Process and Sector-skill committees for the various to be developed to assist in the setting of the Industrial Occupation Standards.
- Pan African Equipment Group shall facilitate skills and knowledge transfer by sending engineers/technicians to teach and train at KIHBT
- Pan African Equipment Group Instructors will be available to give industry support, during tests, examinations, and evaluations for both students and instructors when requested by KIHBT
- KIHBT shall offer necessary Skill Development for Pan African Equipment group staff members.
