The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) – Mwanza Campus has taken steps to increase female enrolment in leather products processing and related programmes as it transforms into a Centre of Excellence in Leather Processing and Allied Technologies (CELPAT).

The EASTRIP Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and other staff members, have developed several strategies to attract female students in its programmes. Some of the strategies include conducting promotion campaigns in secondary schools in Tanzania.

The Institute also participates in science and technology trade fairs where staff interact with potential female students to attract them to enrol in its training programmes. During trade fairs, the institute gives opportunities to staff and female students to showcase their skills and talents as a way of encouraging more students to enrol.

In February 2021, the institute facilitated the participation of three (3) female students in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science which took place in Dar es Salaam, where they were able to showcase their innovative ideas and skills by demonstrating products they produced as part of their academic projects.
